Fitzy Snowman Sculpting to hold a sand sculpting exhibition during the 2nd Annual Salisbury Sand Sculpting Spectacular July 3 - 5, 2009

SALISBURY, MA- Master Sculptor Sean Fitzpatrick will be returning to Salisbury Center Mall this summer to create an amazing whimsical 12 ton sand sculpture sponsored by Joe's Playland. You may recall last years 2 day performance when Sean created a 5 ton replica of the Statue of Liberty's Torch draped with the American flag. This year he will be creating an even larger 12 ton sculpture based on the theme " Summer Sizzles at Salisbury Beach".

In addition to this amazing sand sculpture display Fitzy Snowman will be trucking extra special sculpting sand to the Salisbury Center Mall to hold the first ever off beach family sand sculpting and corporate challenge competition. Fitzpatrick will also be holding special 30 minute sand sculpting clinics over the 3 day period. In addition to this great event there will be festivals, fireworks, live music and fun all summer at Salisbury Beach. Contact the Salisbury Chamber of Commerce for more information at 978-465-3581.

About the Town of Salisbury

The Town of Salisbury is located about 45 miles north of Boston on what is commonly known  as the North shore. It is bordered on the north by New Hampshire, on the east by the Atlantic Ocean, on the south by the Merrimack River and the City of Newburyport and on the west by the  Town of Amesbury. Renowned for its beaches, boating, fishing, and summer entertainment, Salisbury is home to 7,800 year round residents, many of whom work in local shops and businesses.

Home of the first Dodgem Car

One of the famous amusement rides on Salisbury Beach was the Dodgem. Similar rides were and still are found in other amusement parks but the first prototype was built and operated in Salisbury Beach. Most people that have ever been on a Dodgem ride know them by another name - bumper cars. The original bumper cars were built at a time when cars, and even more so an electric car, was a real novelty. The Dodgem name was first used because the cars were hard to steer. It was thought the greater challenge was to avoid other cars in the Dodgem arena, since it was assumed most people would pay to enjoy the novelty of being able to drive an electric car. There was a Dodgem ride in one form or another operating at Salisbury Beach from 1920 to 1980.
