" The Captain" first tried his hand at sand sculpting in 2005. A good friend and colleague by the name of steve Tapazio who has had a sand sculpting company for over 6 years introduced him to the medium. Matt holds a fine arts degree in Illustration and in Art Education from the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth and has worked in many different meduims throughout his life. When he isn't carving sand he can also be found tattooing, painting murals, sculpting with polymer clay or doing display and design work. Sean Fitzpatrick, Master Sculptor and owner of Fitzy Snowman Sculpting has extended invitations to five professional sand sculptors to transform the Worcester DCU Center with sixty six tons of specially imported sand. Here is your chance to get close up and watch these master sculptors create amazing materpieces.Using ten tons sand and a touch of water, each competitor gets 14 hours to complete thier sculpture. Be sure to cast your vote for people's choice and attend the awards ceremony Monday evening at 9 PM to see if your favorite sculpturewins the top spot in this historic event. It was there that she met Sean Fitzpatrick of Fitzy Snowman Sculpting, who became aware of Deb's illustrative abilities and knew that she would be a perfect fit for the sand.
