Mathew Grace, a.k.a. "The Captain", Fallriver, MA, First place and Viewer's Choice first tried his hand at sand sculpting in 2005. A good friend and colleague by the name
of Steve Topazio who has had a sand sculpting company for over 6 years, introduced him to the medium. Matt holds a fine arts degree
in Illustration and in Art Education from the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth and has worked in many different mediums throughout
his life. When he isn't carving sand he can also be found tattooing, painting murals, sculpting with polymer clay or doing display
and design work. A true Jack of all Trades, Matt enjoys the challenge of trying new ways to express himself and affect the world around
him through the work he creates.
